The Story Behind the Farm

In 1976 my dad started looking for land to start another tree farm. He looked in three areas: Sioux Falls, SD, Waterloo, IA and Albert Lea, MN. He ended up purchasing 120 acres north of Albert Lea near Clarks Grove. Together we planted trees in the spring of 1977. Later that year I married Valerie Zent. We lived in Fargo where I was teaching at Oak Grove Lutheran High School. For five years I spent my summers working on the tree farm and the rest of the year teaching in Fargo.

In the spring of 1983 we loaded up our two girls, Tanya and Desiree', and moved to Albert Lea. That winter we sold our first trees. Three years later our business was booming. Our business remained strong until the 1990 ice storm, which was devastating to our trees, and sales began a slow decline that leveled off in the late 90's. Thirty-one years later we continue to provide a wide variety of trees for our customers.
